Recent April ISM Services PMI data at 53.6, slightly below consensus, highlighted a modest slowdown driven by a sharp drop in new orders alongside persistent price pressures at multi-year highs amid Middle East energy costs and tariffs. Employment contracted for a second month while business activity firmed, leaving the sector in expansion territory but underscoring mixed momentum. These signals, combined with broader labor market softening and inflation concerns, underpin closely matched implied probabilities across mid-40s to low-50s ranges on the May reading. The June 3 release will clarify whether readings stabilize near recent averages or edge lower ahead of further policy signals.
