In the ATP Houston Round of 16 on clay, seventh seed Alex Michelsen enters as trader consensus slight favorite over Alexei Popyrin in their first head-to-head meeting, driven by Michelsen's higher ATP ranking (around No. 35 vs. Popyrin's No. 45) and home-crowd boost at River Oaks Country Club. Michelsen broke a year-long tour-level clay drought with a straight-sets 6-4, 6-2 win over Coleman Wong in the opener, signaling improved baseline grinding on the surface where his career win rate sits at 31%. Popyrin advanced via a gritty three-set comeback 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 over Patrick Kypson, leveraging his powerful serve and recent form despite modest clay results. Expect a baseline battle favoring endurance, with no reported injuries and mild Houston weather aiding play.
