Trader consensus on Polymarket assigns just a 14% implied probability to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait being effectively closed by April 30—defined as IMF PortWatch's 7-day moving average of ship transits falling to 10 or fewer—with 19% for May 31, reflecting sustained traffic at 33 ships daily as of April 12 amid Houthi threats tied to U.S.-Iran Strait of Hormuz tensions. Recent UKMTO reports of a deterred boarding attempt highlight persistent risks, yet no shutdown has materialized, buoying rerouted shipping volumes despite surged war-risk insurance premiums (up to 5% of vessel value) and elevated tanker freight rates near $500,000 per day. Oil markets price in volatility, with key catalysts including fresh Houthi actions or IMF data updates ahead of resolution deadlines.
