Cleveland Guardians host the Chicago Cubs in game two of their interleague series at Progressive Field, following the Cubs' 1-0 shutout victory in Thursday's home opener where starter Cade Horton exited after one inning with right forearm discomfort, straining Chicago's bullpen amid existing absences like Seiya Suzuki (10-day IL, knee) and Porter Hodge (15-day IL, elbow). Probable starters Shota Imanaga (Cubs, 0-1, 7.20 ERA early struggles) and Slade Cecconi (Guardians, 0-1) face off in a matchup of unproven rotations, with both clubs hovering near .500 records after seven games. Guardians hold home-field edge and seek split, while Cubs manage pitching depth concerns; low-scoring opener highlights strong early defenses.
