The rematch pits UFC flyweight champion Joshua Van against former titleholder Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 331, stemming directly from their first meeting at UFC 323 where Pantoja dislocated his elbow on a takedown just 26 seconds in, sparking debate over whether Van's victory was a fluke. Van, 24, enters with momentum from a fifth-round TKO defense against Tatsuro Taira and a seven-fight win streak, while the 36-year-old Pantoja returns from injury seeking redemption through superior grappling and experience. Pre-fight press conferences featured unusual bad blood, with Van dismissing the prior injury and emphasizing his striking volume. Commentators are likely to reference the injury narrative, stylistic contrasts between Van's high-output striking and Pantoja's back-control threats, and questions surrounding title legitimacy during the five-round bout on Paramount+.
