World No. 1 seed Carlos Alcaraz meets clay specialist Sebastian Baez in the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters second round, with Alcaraz defending his title on the slow clay courts of Monte Carlo. Alcaraz leads their head-to-head 3-0, including straight-sets triumphs at the US Open 2022 and Tokyo Open last September, underscoring his edge in power and variety. Baez punched his ticket yesterday by ousting Stan Wawrinka in straight sets, capping the Swiss veteran's Monte Carlo career and affirming his 6-4 clay record this season amid strong baseline play. Alcaraz enters rested off a first-round bye, aiming to fend off Jannik Sinner in the No. 1 race, though Baez's defensive grinding and recent qualifier momentum could extend rallies and challenge the Spaniard's topspin-heavy game under mild outdoor conditions.
