Djokovic enters the 2026 US Open first round as the No. 4 seed and 24-time major champion seeking a record 25th title, facing world No. 48 Mariano Navone for the first time. The Argentine, a clay-court specialist with a career-high ranking of 29, arrives after mixed hard-court results in Montreal, Cincinnati, and Winston-Salem, where he exited early. Djokovic, at 39, has managed ongoing heat- and humidity-related issues, including a second-round loss in Cincinnati, while preparing on New York hard courts. The late-August draw announcement highlighted Navone’s challenging opener on a surface where he holds a sub-40% career win rate, contrasting with Djokovic’s proven Grand Slam experience and efficient service game in best-of-five formats. Late-summer conditions at Flushing Meadows remain a key variable for both.
