These moves follow the group's July 2026 declaration of a blockade targeting Saudi-linked shipping, amid the broader U.S.-Iran conflict that has also constrained the Strait of Hormuz. Attacks on Saudi tankers and Red Sea ports such as Yanbu and Jizan have prompted sharp drops in transits, with daily crossings falling well below pre-crisis levels and tanker volumes especially reduced due to insurance withdrawals and rerouting around the Cape of Good Hope. Shadow fleet and non-Saudi vessels continue limited passages, but sustained Houthi enforcement, combined with ongoing Yemen clashes, keeps effective closure risks elevated for traders assessing chokepoint reliability.
