Recent US-North Korea diplomacy centers on President Trump's outreach for a possible fall 2026 summit, potentially during the November APEC meetings in China, following scaled-back US-South Korea exercises and positive signals from Pyongyang on coexistence without denuclearization preconditions. No verified plans, invitations, or logistical preparations exist for Kim Jong Un entering US territory, a step that would require Senate-level coordination, security protocols, and advances on nuclear or sanctions issues absent since the 2019 Hanoi talks. With only months remaining in the calendar year, the absence of any announced itinerary or bilateral breakthrough sustains trader consensus around a non-visit outcome. Late developments such as an unexpected White House invitation accepted before year-end or a rapid shift in North Korean positioning could still alter probabilities.
