Yordan Alvarez has drawn a league-leading 28 intentional walks through late August 2026, already surpassing the Astros’ single-season franchise record and placing him well clear of the next-closest hitters. The 29-year-old designated hitter leads the American League in batting average, home runs, and RBIs while posting elite on-base and slugging marks, making him the clear focal point of opposing pitching plans in an otherwise modest Astros lineup. Recent series against the Athletics featured multiple three-walk games, underscoring how teams continue to bypass him in high-leverage spots. With roughly a month remaining, his sustained dominance and lack of comparable protection in the batting order have driven the overwhelming trader consensus around his totals. An extended injury absence, dramatic late slump, or sudden lineup reinforcement around him remain the primary realistic paths for another player to close the gap.
