St. Louis Cardinals (4-2) face Detroit Tigers (2-4) in the Tigers' home opener at Comerica Park, spotlighting a strong pitching matchup between Cardinals righty Michael McGreevy—fresh off six scoreless innings and zero hits allowed in his debut versus the Rays—and Tigers lefty Framber Valdez, who permitted one earned run over six frames against the Padres. Cardinals ride early-season momentum with potent offense, while Detroit seeks a boost amid a sluggish start and multiple pitchers on the injured list, including Reese Olson (shoulder) and Jackson Jobe (elbow); St. Louis misses outfielder Lars Nootbaar (60-day IL, heels). Mild 71-degree weather and short series context emphasize starters' effectiveness and home-field edge.
