The Toronto Blue Jays visit the Cleveland Guardians for a three-game series with major American League wild-card implications, as the Jays sit 1.5 games behind Cleveland (69-68) in the standings while both clubs chase playoff positioning behind the White Sox. Toronto enters with momentum after sweeping the Mariners, including a 7-0 shutout powered by Max Scherzer’s strong outing, while the Guardians cooled after a seven-game win streak by dropping two straight to the Royals. Probable starters for the opener pit Toronto’s Spencer Arrighetti against Cleveland’s Gavin Williams, with the Jays holding a 2-1 edge in the season series from their April meetings. Both rotations have dealt with injuries, including Toronto’s placement of Shane Bieber on the IL, and the outcome could shift tiebreaker scenarios or separation in a crowded wild-card group featuring the Orioles and Rangers. Home-field advantage at Progressive Field and bullpen reliability remain key variables in these late-season contests.
