The federal indictment of the Southern Poverty Law Center on 11 counts of wire fraud, false statements to a bank, and conspiracy to commit concealment money laundering—centered on its use of donor funds for paid informants inside extremist groups from 2014 to 2023—remains in pretrial proceedings as of early September 2026. A judge denied the SPLC’s motion to dismiss for alleged vindictive prosecution in August, clearing the path for an October trial in the Middle District of Alabama. Traders assign an 88.5% implied probability against a guilty verdict this year amid the organization’s not-guilty plea, active legal challenges, and the typical timeline and evidentiary hurdles in complex financial cases against nonprofits. Upcoming court milestones and any plea developments could still influence resolution.
