Persistent inflation, with August PCE near 3.6% and core measures around 3.2%, prompted the shift and signaled further increases ahead, pressuring valuations near 7,650 amid a 52-week range of 6,317-7,817. Robust corporate earnings growth, led by AI-driven capex and technology sector expansion, has provided support and lifted consensus 2026 EPS estimates, while geopolitical tensions in the Middle East add volatility risks. Key upcoming catalysts include the next FOMC meeting, October CPI and employment data, and Q3 earnings releases that could clarify the rate path and growth trajectory.
