Defending Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters champion and top seed Carlos Alcaraz opens his clay-court title defense against No. 65 Sebastian Baez in the second round on the slow, high-bouncing clay of Court Rainier III. Alcaraz, a two-time French Open winner with superior topspin, movement, and variety, leads the head-to-head 3-0 and arrives healthy after focusing on injury prevention following a demanding hard-court swing marred by Miami struggles. Baez, a gritty Argentine clay specialist, advanced past Stan Wawrinka 7-5, 7-5 on Monday but faces a stylistic mismatch against Alcaraz's power from the baseline. Traders weigh Alcaraz's surface history and rankings edge against Baez's recent qualifier momentum and potential for grinding rallies, with no reported injuries for either.
