The federal criminal case against the Southern Poverty Law Center, indicted in April 2026 on wire fraud, bank false statements, and money laundering conspiracy charges tied to its informant payments, remains in pre-trial proceedings in the Middle District of Alabama. A motion to dismiss alleging vindictive prosecution was denied in August, a not guilty plea was entered, and the trial—originally slated for October—has been delayed until February 2027. With no verdict or plea resolution expected before year-end and ongoing discovery and scheduling disputes, traders see little prospect of a 2026 conviction. The case's procedural timeline and structural barriers to swift adjudication underpin the 89% implied probability on "No."
