The Federal Reserve raised the federal funds rate target range by 25 basis points to 3.75-4% on September 16, citing elevated inflation pressures from energy prices and core services, which has lifted Treasury yields and tempered multiple expansion. Geopolitical uncertainties tied to Middle East developments have supported energy sector gains while adding volatility. Key near-term catalysts include the next FOMC meeting, third-quarter earnings reports, and upcoming inflation and employment data that will shape rate expectations and risk appetite through year-end.
