Arthur Fils enters the US Open first-round matchup against Stefanos Tsitsipas as the clear favorite, backed by a 5-0 head-to-head record that includes a 6-0, 6-1 demolition on hard courts in Miami earlier this year. The 22-year-old Frenchman, ranked No. 11 and seeded 10th, arrives in peak form after capturing his first Masters 1000 title in Cincinnati, where he posted strong results against top competition. Tsitsipas, now ranked No. 53 after a prolonged ranking slide linked to injuries and inconsistency, showed signs of recovery with a clay-court title in Gstaad but has struggled recently on hard courts and trails significantly in recent win rates. The outdoor hard surface at Flushing Meadows aligns with Fils’ powerful baseline game and serving, while the Greek’s one-handed backhand has proven vulnerable in their prior encounters. Tsitsipas, coached by Patrick Mouratoglou, faces an early test against a rising contender in strong momentum.
