The Atlanta Falcons’ undecided Week 1 starting quarterback role against the Steelers has produced a tight market because neither Michael Penix Jr. nor Tua Tagovailoa has secured the job after a fluid training camp and preseason. Penix, working back from a late-2025 ACL injury, has only recently been cleared for 11-on-11 work and was held out of the final preseason game, leaving open the possibility that Tagovailoa serves as a short-term placeholder while the third-year passer builds reps. Tagovailoa, acquired in the offseason, has dealt with his own back issues and posted inconsistent results in camp and exhibition play, preventing him from locking down the nod. The team’s decision to carry four quarterbacks—including veteran Cooper Rush and undrafted rookie Jack Strand—on the initial 53-man roster underscores injury concerns for the top two options and keeps the depth chart fluid heading into the final week of preparation. With the opener less than ten days away and no official announcement, trader consensus remains balanced across the primary candidates.

In the event that no starting quarterback is officially announced by the team, this market will resolve in favor of the listed quarterback who takes the field on the Atlanta Falcons' first offensive play. In the event two listed quarterbacks take the field on the first offensive play of the Atlanta Falcons' Week 1 game, this market will resolve in favor of the player directly receiving the snap. If neither listed quarterback directly receives the snap, this market will resolve in favor of the quarterback who first directly receives a snap in the game. If a tie still persists, this market will resolve in favor of the quarterback whose listed last name comes first alphabetically.
If Week 1 of the 2026-27 NFL regular season is cancelled, postponed after September 30, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or no official starter has taken the field within that timeframe, this market will resolve to "Other".
The resolution source for this market will be official information from the NFL and/or the Atlanta Falcons; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
