Qinwen Zheng, the former world No. 4 and 2024 Olympic gold medalist ranked 121 after injury setbacks, faces 20-year-old Elena Pridankina (No. 186) in the US Open qualifying final round on hard courts. Zheng has advanced convincingly through her first two matches, defeating compatriot Xiaodi You and Clara Burel while reporting pain-free play for the first time in two years, which has stabilized her movement and boosted confidence after a ranking slide outside the top 100. Pridankina, who reached the Roland Garros main draw earlier this year, arrives with strong recent form, including straight-set wins over Rebecca Marino and Aliona Falei, plus seven victories in her last 10 matches. Zheng’s power baseline game, serve consistency on hard courts, and Grand Slam experience create a significant edge, though the younger Russian’s aggressive returns and qualifying momentum offer realistic upset potential in a best-of-three format.
