The New York Mets (51-66) visit the Pittsburgh Pirates (57-61) at PNC Park on August 9 for the rubber match of a three-game set, with the series tied 1-1 after the Mets’ 6-4 win on August 7 and the Pirates’ 9-0 victory the following day. The Mets sit fifth in the NL East while the Pirates occupy a similar mid-pack spot in the NL Central; both clubs remain well out of postseason contention. Recent form favors Pittsburgh after ending a four-game skid with dominant offensive and pitching performances at home. Pitching matchups, bullpen availability following the lopsided Saturday result, and day-of-game roster adjustments will shape the outcome in this interleague matchup between two rebuilding squads.
