The St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies enter their late-August series with both clubs firmly in the NL wild-card hunt, the Cardinals sitting near .500 in the Central while the Phillies hold second in the East. Philadelphia’s recent road struggles, including a series loss at Busch Stadium where their offense managed just one run against St. Louis pitching, have tightened the wild-card race. Key injury notes include Phillies starter Aaron Nola (knee) listed day-to-day and several bullpen arms on the IL, while the Cardinals continue to monitor rotation depth amid transfers to the 60-day list. The upcoming games at Citizens Bank Park feature strong home/away splits and potential bullpen usage implications for both sides as they navigate a compressed late-summer schedule.
