Both teams enter Sunday’s rubber match at Citizens Bank Park with identical 34-30 records, the Phillies holding second place in the NL East and the White Sox second in the AL Central. Philadelphia’s Aaron Nola (5.55 ERA) faces a Chicago opener strategy anchored by left-hander Tyler Gilbert and right-hander David Sandlin, a matchup that favors the visitors’ recent offensive surge—leading the majors in wRC+ and home runs over the past 30 days despite missing Munetaka Murakami. The White Sox have taken two of three from Philadelphia this season and split the first two games of the series, with Jacob Gonzalez delivering his first MLB homer in Saturday’s 6-3 win. Philadelphia’s bullpen and power bats remain strengths, but Nola’s command issues and the short turnaround create uncertainty for the home side.
