Mirra Andreeva enters the US Open first-round matchup against Janice Tjen as the clear favorite, holding a top-five ranking and strong hard-court results in 2026, including a straight-sets victory over the same opponent in Cincinnati's third round earlier this month. The 19-year-old French Open champion has compiled a 40-13 singles record this season with multiple titles, while demonstrating composure in tiebreaks and efficient serving on hard courts. Tjen, a 24-year-old Indonesian ranked No. 35 with a career-high achieved in late August, brings recent main-draw experience but holds an 11-22 record this year and has yet to defeat a top-10 player. Their lone prior meeting highlighted Andreeva's superior movement and point construction. The hard-court Grand Slam setting and Andreeva's recent consecutive wins favor the higher-ranked player, though Tjen's solid qualifying path and serve could extend rallies if Andreeva's mixed-doubles schedule creates any fatigue.
