Supervision

Four Things Sit Behind Every Market.

01

Rules

Written, published, and binding

Insider trading, market manipulation, wash trading, spoofing, self-dealing, front-running, among many others are prohibited under Polymarket.com's Terms of Use and Polymarket US's Rulebook.

02

Surveillance

Continuous and multi-layered

Trading and wallet activity is monitored by custom machine-learning models, commercial blockchain analytics, trade surveillance tooling, and open-source research. We employ a team of in-house experts as well as partnering with external vendors.

03

Investigation

Staffed and documented

Matters are worked by expert investigators with backgrounds including the FBI, Chainalysis, and Coinbase. We refer appropriate cases to our partners in law enforcement and work hand in hand with them to ensure wrongdoing is fully investigated and actioned under the law.

04

Enforcement

Real consequences

Substantiated matters result in wallet-level restriction, legal action, or referral to law enforcement.

Anyone can report suspicious activity to integrity@polymarket.com, and those reports enter the same queue as Polymarket's own detections.

Ten Facts About How Polymarket Operates.

Regulation and access

01

Polymarket US and Polymarket International both implement and enforce strict market integrity standards.

Polymarket operates a CFTC-licensed U.S. exchange (Polymarket US) and a separate international blockchain-based platform (Polymarket International, at polymarket.com), each governed by its own applicable rules, terms, and market integrity standards. Polymarket's Terms of Service and Market Integrity Rules prohibit manipulative or abusive trading, insider trading, misuse of confidential information, and circumvention of jurisdictional restrictions, among other activities. Polymarket maintains monitoring, review, enforcement, and reporting processes to address potential violations.

ClaimInaccurate
Polymarket is a single unregulated offshore venue with no meaningful oversight.
    Evidence
  • The two platforms serve different users under different laws and are governed accordingly. See the Polymarket Terms of Use and the Polymarket US Rulebook.
  • Polymarket International runs a dedicated market integrity program with defined risk categories, custom detection, and named escalation paths. See the monitoring and enforcement standards.
  • Every matter opened produces a documented investigative record.
02

Trading from restricted jurisdictions is prohibited and actively detected.

Users in restricted jurisdictions, including the United States, are prohibited from trading on Polymarket International or using tools intended to circumvent geographic restrictions. Polymarket maintains compliance and market integrity measures designed to detect and address prohibited activity, including unauthorized access from restricted jurisdictions.

ClaimInaccurate
Users in restricted jurisdictions trade freely on Polymarket International through VPNs, and nobody is checking.
    Evidence
  • Detection measures include on-chain monitoring, third-party compliance tools, and internal review processes.
  • Circumvention is a violation of the Terms of Use, handled through the same enforcement process as any other prohibited conduct.
  • U.S. traders are served by Polymarket US, the CFTC-licensed exchange. See Polymarket US Market Integrity.

Surveillance and attribution

03

Every trade on Polymarket International is permanently recorded on a public blockchain.

Polymarket surveils and monitors for insider trading and other illegal activity, consistent with other markets. The transparency of the blockchain provides everyone with a real-time view of all trading activity, which allows Polymarket to efficiently identify and trace potential wrongdoers, and allows the general public to flag suspicious trading activity.

ClaimInaccurate
Because the platform does not require identity documents, trading is “anonymous” and platforms cannot trace illicit activity to its source.
    Evidence
  • Polymarket identified suspicious trading, referred it to the Department of Justice, and cooperated with the investigation behind the first prediction markets insider trading case charged in the United States. See the Department of Justice release.
  • Polymarket International is not anonymous. It is actually the least anonymous financial market of all time. You can look at every single market, every single trade, and look at the trading history in full of every single participant.
  • On Polymarket International, every trade, position, transfer, and funding path is public, permanent, and available in real time.
  • Polymarket's expert investigators with backgrounds including the FBI analyze and trace transactions on the blockchain.
04

Multi-account coordination is a defined risk category with dedicated detection.

Coordinated and multi-account activity is a defined category in Polymarket's market integrity program. On Polymarket International, detection is built specifically to surface wallets operating under common control. Funding, trading, and withdrawal each leave a permanent public trail.

ClaimInaccurate
There is no limit on how many accounts one person can open, so a single actor can run a network of wallets invisibly.
    Evidence
  • Detection looks for positions that move together across markets, shared funding origins, correlated timing and sizing, and converging withdrawal paths.
  • Each additional account creates further on-chain relationships tying back to the others. Common control across Polymarket wallets can be determined by outside analysts and by Polymarket's own investigations using public data.

Polymarket US applies its own controls against coordinated and multi-account activity under its published rulebook. Learn more about Polymarket US →

05

Detection combines machine learning, commercial analytics, and federal-background investigators.

On Polymarket International, custom machine-learning models are built on Polymarket's own trading and wallet data and aggregated with commercial blockchain analytics, trade surveillance tooling, open-source research, and human referrals. The on-chain and wallet-clustering models are specific to this platform, where every trade settles on a public blockchain. Detection runs across both platforms, and the program is staffed by expert investigators with backgrounds including the FBI, Chainalysis, and Coinbase.

ClaimInaccurate
Prediction markets want to be treated like mainstream commodities markets but have none of the safeguards in place.
    Evidence
  • Models score trading and wallet behavior for the patterns associated with insider trading, manipulation, coordination, and automated abuse.
  • A signal escalates to investigation when two or more independent sources point at the same wallet or market.
  • Every matter receives a unique identifier, a full timeline, a recorded disposition, and an auditable record.
  • Reports sent to integrity@polymarket.com enter the same queue and are triaged against the same standard.
  • Every closed matter feeds back into detection, so our custom machine-learning models are constantly getting smarter about new threat vectors.
  • The investigators reviewing these signals have backgrounds including the FBI, Chainalysis, and Coinbase. Polymarket's compliance and investigations hiring has been publicly reported, and we continue to grow our world-class team.

Manipulation and market quality

06

All trades on Polymarket International are peer-to-peer.

Trades on Polymarket International are matched between users rather than against the house. Polymarket is not a counterparty to those markets and holds no position in any outcome.

ClaimInaccurate
A platform has no real incentive to police manipulation in the markets it profits from.
    Evidence
  • Polymarket doesn't act as a counterparty to trades and doesn't have an economic interest in a specific result or outcome. See the Market Integrity page.
  • Polymarket's primary goal is ensuring accurate market forecasts, including by detecting and addressing any market manipulation that may damage accurate price discovery.
  • The full order flow behind every market on Polymarket International is public, so Polymarket's own conduct in any market is auditable by anyone.
07

Wash trading, spoofing, and other forms of potential market manipulation are prohibited and monitored.

Fraud and market manipulation are prohibited in all their forms on both platforms, under Polymarket International's Terms of Use and Polymarket US's Rulebook. That includes, but is not limited to, spoofing, wash trading, fictitious transactions, self-dealing, front-running, information misuse, attempted manipulation, and disruptive practices.

ClaimInaccurate
Prohibited trading practices are written into the terms but not actually surveilled, so the rules are nominal.
    Evidence
  • Polymarket's market integrity program has tailored procedures to identify and address violations. The full list of prohibited conduct is set out in the Terms of Use and the Polymarket US Rulebook, and summarised on the Market Integrity page.
  • Activity that violates our Terms of Use can result in wallet-level restriction, legal action, or referral to law enforcement.
08

Wallets are screened for sanctions exposure and illicit-finance risk.

On Polymarket International, screening for sanctions and illicit-finance exposure runs against the same public transaction history that makes every trade traceable. A match escalates immediately rather than waiting on standard review.

ClaimInaccurate
A crypto platform without identity checks is an easy route for sanctioned actors and illicit funds.
    Evidence
  • Wallets and counterparties are screened against sanctions lists and for exposure to mixers, darknet markets, and other illicit-finance typologies.
  • Screening runs on public transaction history, so the counterparty chain behind a wallet is visible rather than asserted.
  • Sanctions and illicit-finance matches bypass standard review and escalate immediately.
  • Circumventing these controls is a violation of the Terms of Use, enforced the same way as any other prohibited conduct.

Polymarket US applies its own customer due diligence and sanctions screening obligations as a CFTC-regulated exchange. Learn more about Polymarket US →

Enforcement

09

Polymarket enforces violations, including referring conduct to law enforcement.

Polymarket's internal process produces continuous referrals to law enforcement, including the referral that resulted in the first prediction markets insider trading case charged in the United States.

ClaimInaccurate
Self-policing by a platform is not real enforcement.
    Evidence
  • Polymarket has disciplinary procedures to enforce its market integrity rules.
  • Violation of our Terms of Use may result in restrictions, legal action, or referral to law enforcement.
  • Polymarket identifies potentially suspicious activity, refers it to law enforcement where appropriate, and cooperates with investigations.
  • In April 2026 the DOJ and the CFTC charged a U.S. Army service member who allegedly traded prediction markets on classified information after Polymarket referred the conduct. The Department of Justice publicly acknowledged Polymarket's cooperation.
  • The CFTC's parallel action was the first insider trading charge involving an event contract.
10

Polymarket does not comment on open investigations.

Polymarket does not discuss pending investigations or specific matters. Where appropriate, Polymarket engages with regulators and law enforcement to support the integrity of its markets.

ClaimInaccurate
Declining to discuss specific matters means Polymarket is not taking these issues seriously, and a platform confident in its program would answer questions about individual cases.
    Evidence
  • Publicly commenting on open matters can compromise investigations.
  • Polymarket is serious about cooperation with law enforcement and keeps details of active investigations confidential.

Enforcement outcomes

Continuous Referrals to Law Enforcement.

Polymarket International's Global Intelligence & Investigations Team produces continuous referrals to law enforcement. In April 2026 the Department of Justice and the CFTC charged a U.S. Army service member who allegedly traded prediction markets on classified information. Polymarket found the trading, referred it, and cooperated with the investigation. The DOJ publicly acknowledged that cooperation.

Why this matters

A rule matters only if breaking it carries a consequence. Polymarket's own detection produced the referral behind the first prediction markets insider trading case charged in the United States. A trader acting on inside information on this platform can be identified, referred, and prosecuted.
