The FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind opens August 13 with a deep field of the top 70 FedExCup players, producing tightly bunched implied probabilities for first-round leader. No single golfer stands out because the course’s narrow fairways, water-lined par 4s and 5s, and firm greens reward accurate ball-striking and scrambling more than raw power, spreading scoring upside across many contenders. Recent form from the Wyndham Championship and regular-season finishes further levels the field, while Thursday weather and pin placements remain uncertain variables. Historical data shows first-round leaders often emerge from mid-tier names who post low-60s totals, keeping the market consensus diffuse and preventing any clear front-runner.
