Rising memory and storage chip prices amid the ongoing AI infrastructure boom have pushed expected costs for Valve’s new Steam Machine well above earlier $600–700 targets. Recent retailer leaks and third-party bill-of-materials estimates now place the 512 GB model near $799 and the 2 TB version closer to $999, reflecting AMD-powered hardware comparable to mid-range desktop PCs without Windows licensing subsidies. Valve’s repeated delays—from early 2026 to a confirmed summer launch—have reinforced trader views that the company will price the device in line with current PC market realities rather than absorbing losses. While a last-minute cost-reduction effort or aggressive subsidy could still pull the base SKU below $700, the sustained component-price pressure and Valve’s stated “no subsidy” stance make such an outcome unlikely before release.

This market will resolve to "Yes" if the price of Valve's Steam Machine 512GB edition is $700 or greater upon release. In order to be considered released, the product must be available for purchase by the general public within the specified timeframe. An announcement or unveiling alone is not sufficient. This market is specifically about the Steam Machine with 512GB of storage. The product must be named "Steam Machine" to qualify.
If the Steam Machine 512GB edition gaming console is not released by December 31, 2026, 11:59PM ET, this market will resolve to "No".
The primary resolution source for this market will be official statements from Valve. However, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
