**Magomed Ankalaev stands as the clear frontrunner in trader consensus for Carlos Ulberg’s next UFC light heavyweight title defense, driven by his status as the division’s top-ranked contender and recent momentum.** Ulberg captured the vacant belt with a first-round knockout of Jiri Prochazka at UFC 327 in April 2026 but tore his ACL, sidelining him through the remainder of the year and into early 2027. Ankalaev rebounded from a prior title loss with a fifth-round TKO of Bogdan Guskov in July, positioning him for an immediate shot once the champion returns. Ulberg has publicly highlighted Ankalaev among the division’s worthiest challengers, while other names like Paulo Costa and Jan Blachowicz remain distant due to lower rankings and less direct path to a title opportunity. This setup reflects the wisdom of crowds pricing in the most logical high-stakes matchup based on current standings and recovery timelines.
