**Rising memory costs from AI-driven demand have prompted Apple to lobby the Trump administration for clearance to source DRAM from CXMT, China’s leading memory maker on the Pentagon’s 1260H list.** Reports from June–August 2026 indicate Apple is testing CXMT chips for China-market devices and seeking assurances against Entity List placement, which would impose licensing hurdles. However, CXMT’s fabs operate near 95% utilization with capacity booked through 2027, limiting near-term supply. Political opposition from U.S. lawmakers, reputational risks, and Beijing’s likely prioritization of domestic needs create significant barriers. No binding contracts or volume commitments have been confirmed, leaving any 2026 purchases speculative and likely confined to limited China-only volumes if approved at all. Key catalysts include ongoing White House deliberations and potential policy signals ahead of high-level U.S.-China meetings.
