The St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs enter their late-August series at Wrigley Field with the Cubs holding a stronger overall record near the top of the NL Central while the Cardinals sit further back but remain in wild-card range. Recent head-to-head results show a split, including the Cubs' 3-0 shutout on August 14 and the Cardinals' 8-4 comeback win the next day powered by rookie Joshua Báez's three-home-run debut. Chicago's rotation has been hampered by multiple injuries, including Ben Brown on the 60-day IL, limiting depth against St. Louis' surging lineup. Both clubs face tight playoff positioning, with the season series tied and home-field edge at Wrigley a key factor in trader pricing for upcoming games.
