Second seed Adrian Mannarino, ranked around No. 43, faces qualifier Daniel Merida Aguilar, No. 136, in the Bucharest Open round of 16 on outdoor clay. Merida, a 21-year-old Spaniard, advanced with a gritty 7-6(4), 7-5 win over alternate Otto Virtanen in the round of 32, showcasing momentum from recent clay results including a round-of-16 appearance. The 37-year-old French lefty Mannarino enters fresh off a bye but off hard-court struggles, losing four of his last five matches at Indian Wells, Phoenix, and Miami. No head-to-head exists; traders weigh Mannarino's experience and seeding against Merida's youth and clay affinity amid cool, potentially breezy conditions.
