Despite intense pre-fight trash talk—Strickland vowing to "beat the sh*t out of" Chimaev and UFC imposing extra security amid bad-blood hype—both fighters showed mutual respect with the sportsmanship gesture, as confirmed by official ESPN broadcasts, live play-by-play coverage, and post-fight social media from MMA reporters. With the bout completed and Strickland's split-decision upset victory, no realistic scenarios remain to alter resolution, barring an unprecedented official dispute over video evidence.
