Top-seeded qualifier Yuliia Starodubtseva (WTA No. 108) holds a substantial ranking and experience advantage over American wildcard Ayana Akli (No. 236) in the Credit One Charleston Open qualifying first round on distinctive green clay at Credit One Stadium. Starodubtseva enters with a 7-8 YTD singles record, rebounding from a recent Miami main draw loss to Amanda Anisimova, bolstered by her career-high No. 63 peak and consistent WTA exposure. Akli, meanwhile, shows limited form after straight-sets clay defeats at ITF Sabadell and WTA 125 Oeiras earlier this month. No head-to-head exists; Akli benefits from home crowd energy, but Starodubtseva's surface proficiency and seeding drive trader sentiment amid mild Charleston weather.
