Alina Korneeva, the 18-year-old Russian ranked No. 122, carries strong momentum into her WTA 125K Madrid clay-court round-of-16 clash with 31-year-old Macedonian Lina Gjorcheska (No. 199), boasting an impressive 18-4 singles record in 2026 highlighted by a title in Oeiras and recent straight-sets triumphs over Harmony Tan and Carol Young-Suh Lee. Gjorcheska advanced with a 6-4, 6-4 first-round win over Sara Saito but sits at 5-4 for the year amid mixed results. With no head-to-head history, Korneeva's baseline power and youth edge contrast Gjorcheska's veteran experience and clay familiarity; no injuries reported, though Madrid's outdoor conditions could factor in any late withdrawals or fatigue from short turnarounds.
