The 18-year-old Egyptian star, Africa's top female player, stunned with a 4-3 comeback over France's Jia Nan Yuan yesterday—rallying from 7-10 in the decider for a historic first quarterfinal appearance—following a 3-0 rout of Cheng I-Ching. World No. 1 Sun, the defending champion, advanced 4-2 over Kuai Man but enters after past close head-to-heads where Goda has extracted maximum games despite Sun's unblemished record against her. Momentum from Goda's upsets tempers Sun's rankings edge and experience; service consistency or fatigue from tight recent rounds could swing probabilities either way.
