Andrey Rublev enters this US Open second-round matchup as the clear favorite against Daniel Merida Aguilar, reflecting his higher ranking (No. 24), deeper Grand Slam experience, and stronger overall hard-court pedigree despite a 27-16 season record. Rublev advanced past Otto Virtanen in a five-set battle, showing resilience after dropping the first two sets. Merida, the 21-year-old Spaniard at a career-high No. 39, arrives with strong momentum after a straight-sets victory over Marton Fucsovics in his first US Open main-draw win, backed by a 42-19 record this year and solid recent hard-court results in Canada and Cincinnati. The hard-court surface and best-of-five format favor Rublev’s baseline consistency and serve, though Merida’s improved mental game and recent form create limited upset potential if he maintains early break-point conversion. Trader consensus prices Rublev as the heavy favorite based on these gaps in experience and consistency.
