Chilean clay-court specialist Cristian Garin, holding an ATP ranking around 90 with a career 64% win rate on the surface and five ATP titles, meets Dutch riser Jesper de Jong (ATP 91-99) in the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters qualifying first round—their debut head-to-head. Garin enters off a tough 2026 season (1-7 early, mixed Rio de Janeiro clay results including a win over Juan Manuel Cerundolo before a loss), plus a Miami qualifying defeat last month. De Jong, after a career-high No. 71 in January, lost his latest clay outing in Alicante Challenger R16 to low-ranked Mees Houkes and Dubai ATP R32 to Andrey Rublev. No injuries reported; expect a tight ATP Masters 1000 clay qualifier under mild Monaco conditions, with Garin's experience a key edge amid both players' recent form dips.
