Federico Agustin Gomez, seeded fourth in qualifying at No. 182, holds a clear ranking edge over American Andres Martin (No. 273) in this US Men's Clay Court Championships first-round qualifier on Houston's outdoor clay courts, their first head-to-head matchup. The 29-year-old Argentine Gomez recently lost a three-set thriller to Dan Martin in the Morelos Challenger first round on hard courts March 16, snapping a string of early exits, while 24-year-old Martin showed momentum with a 6-2, 6-2 upset of Stefan Kozlov in Morelia before a quarterfinal loss. Gomez's South American baseline game suits clay better than Martin's, though both transition from hard-court form; no injuries reported, with weather a potential variable. Trader consensus reflects Gomez's experience advantage in this evenly poised opener.
