Daniil Medvedev enters his second-round matchup at the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters with a first-round bye and a flawless 3-0 head-to-head record over Matteo Berrettini, all on hard courts, bolstered by his red-hot 2026 form including Brisbane and Dubai titles plus an Indian Wells final. Berrettini, back via wildcard after abdominal and hand injuries, advanced easily when Roberto Bautista Agut retired after four games, signaling positive momentum from recent clay wins in Buenos Aires and Rio amid a 6-6 season record. Clay surface history favors Berrettini's booming serve and baseline power (career 45-35 for Medvedev on dirt), but the Russian's low points to defend and superior current ranking fuel trader consensus toward his consistency, while Berrettini's upset potential hinges on exploiting Medvedev's historical clay struggles and any lingering fitness concerns. Mild weather aids play with no delays reported.
