Cleveland Guardians host the Chicago Cubs in their Progressive Field home opener, with both clubs at 4-3 and 3-3 respectively in the young 2026 MLB season, reflecting evenly matched early trader consensus on this interleague clash. Key factors include the pitching matchup of Guardians' Joey Cantillo seeking redemption against Cubs prospect Cade Horton (1-0, 2.84 ERA), whose impressive debut has fueled Chicago's momentum after allowing just two runs per game over their last three outings versus the Angels. Ian Happ's hot streak—homing in three straight games—bolsters the Cubs' offense, though they miss Seiya Suzuki (knee, injured list) and others like Justin Steele (elbow). Guardians benefit from Chase DeLauter's return from a foot contusion, adding outfield depth amid Cleveland's MLB-leading strikeouts issued. Home-field edge and rest advantages shape a competitive series start.
