Detroit Tigers enter the series finale with a commanding 2-0 lead over the host San Diego Padres at Petco Park, following 8-2 and 5-2 wins driven by rookie Kevin McGonigle's four-hit debut and timely RBIs, plus Tarik Skubal's lights-out Opening Day gem. Jack Flaherty (4.64 ERA in 2025) starts for Detroit against Randy Vásquez (3.84 ERA) for injury-plagued San Diego, whose rotation and bullpen face depth issues with Joe Musgrove, Jason Adam (quadriceps), Yuki Matsui (groin), and Jhony Brito (elbow) sidelined on the injured list. Tigers' healthier pitching staff, offensive momentum, and road rest advantage contrast Padres' home-field pressure amid early-season stumbles, informing trader sentiment on this 1984 World Series rematch rubber game.
