Kayla Day, seeded No. 9 in qualifying at No. 164 WTA, enters as clear trader favorite over No. 354 Haley Giavara in their Credit One Charleston Open first-round qualifier on green clay, driven by her dominant 15-4 year-to-date record versus Giavara's 8-5, plus a lopsided 6-1, 6-1 head-to-head win in 2020. Both players arrive with 3-2 marks in their last five matches, Giavara off a recent ITF W50 Chihuahua quarterfinal loss on hard courts to Kayla Cross, while Day boasts WTA-level experience including a 2026 Indian Wells second-round run against Iga Swiatek. No injuries reported amid the freshly released qualifying draw emphasizing American talent; mild Charleston weather with partly cloudy skies and 64°F highs poses minimal disruption, winner advancing to Saturday's final round.
