With the Athletics hosting the Chicago White Sox in a three-game series opener on April 17 at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento, trader consensus reflects Oakland's marginal edge at 6-7 compared to Chicago's 5-9 start in the AL Central. Both clubs struggle offensively, averaging under 4.2 runs per game while allowing over 5.4, underscoring weak bullpens and inconsistent rotations. Chicago faces headwinds from recent injuries, including infielder Brooks Baldwin's season-ending UCL surgery and LHP Chris Murphy's 15-day IL stint for elbow impingement, thinning an already thin lineup. Erick Fedde (0-2, 4.09 ERA) starts for the White Sox against an Athletics staff buoyed by home-field advantage and fewer key absences, though early-season volatility keeps this matchup competitive.
