The San Francisco Giants enter this matchup with a sub-.500 record amid ongoing injury issues to key pitchers like Matt Gage and others on the 15- or 60-day IL, while relying on recent offensive firepower after an 18-3 rout of the Cubs on June 5. Chicago holds a stronger overall standing near .500 but has absorbed pitching setbacks including Matthew Boyd and others sidelined, with the bullpen and rotation showing inconsistency in the series. The Cubs responded with a 3-2 extra-innings win on June 6 at Wrigley Field, where home factors and recent form provide some edge. Both clubs face tight NL Central and Wild Card positioning, making lineup availability and bullpen stability pivotal for any outcome.
