The expanded electorate for Berlin’s 20 September 2026 House of Representatives election underpins trader expectations of higher turnout. Eligible voters have risen above 2.5 million from roughly 2.43 million in the February 2023 repeat vote, driven by naturalizations and the first-time inclusion of 16- and 17-year-olds. Simultaneous district assembly elections further enlarge the pool, adding EU citizens at the local level. Recent polling shows a fragmented contest among CDU, SPD, Greens, Left, and AfD, with no party holding a clear majority and coalition negotiations likely to remain open, increasing mobilization incentives. Comparable 2026 state contests elsewhere in Germany recorded turnout gains of several points, consistent with the 93.5 % market-implied probability that participation will exceed the prior 62.9 % benchmark.
