California’s June 2 nonpartisan top-two primary for the newly redrawn 6th Congressional District features incumbent Kevin Kiley running as an independent after switching districts and party registration, alongside a crowded Democratic field including former state Senator Richard Pan and Sacramento County District Attorney Thien Ho, plus Republican Michael Stansfield. The split among Democratic candidates has positioned Kiley to lead early returns while leaving second place contested between Pan and Stansfield. With thousands of mail ballots still uncounted, later-reported votes that typically favor Democrats could determine whether the independent or the Republican advances to the November general election alongside Kiley. No further primaries or major endorsements remain scheduled before certification.
