Dakota County's position in U.S. Rep. Angie Craig's congressional district creates a localized advantage for the moderate candidate despite Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan's statewide party endorsement and recent polling edge. The August 11 Democratic primary remains tightly contested because suburban voter preferences, turnout patterns among DFL primary participants, and split endorsements have not produced clear separation in county-level data. Recent debates highlighting differences on immigration enforcement and campaign finance, combined with substantial outside spending on both sides, sustain uncertainty among traders. Other candidates such as Kurt Michael Anderson and George Kalberer further fragment the field without established local strength. Scheduled primary voting in three days limits opportunities for late shifts absent major developments.
