The Swiss National Bank’s September 24 policy assessment is priced by traders at a 99.2% probability of no change, reflecting the central bank’s decision to hold its policy rate at the 0% effective lower bound through June 2026 amid inflation that remains subdued. August CPI rose to 0.8% year-over-year, driven by higher petroleum costs and a weaker franc, yet core measures stayed near 0.4% and the SNB’s June conditional forecast kept average annual inflation at 0.6% for both 2026 and 2027—well inside its 0-2% price-stability range. Monetary conditions are viewed as appropriately expansionary, with the franc’s recent path reducing imported deflationary pressure while geopolitical risks continue to support an increased willingness for foreign-exchange intervention rather than rate adjustments. A material upside surprise in September inflation data or a sharp, sustained franc depreciation could prompt a reassessment, though current momentum and economist consensus point to continuity at the September meeting.

Increases or decreases of less than 25 bps will be rounded to 25 bps (e.g. an increase or decrease of 10 bps would be considered to be an increase or decrease of 25 bps). Increases or decreases of greater than 25 bps will be rounded to the nearest 25 bps and will be rounded away from 0 in cases of equidistance (e.g., an increase or decrease of 37.5 bps would be considered to be an increase or decrease of 50 bps).
