Margot Phanthala, a 19-year-old French player with college experience at Northwestern, brings recent hard-court activity from ITF W15 events in Tianjin and Astana into this matchup against 30-year-old South Korean Sunam Jeong. Phanthala posted a straight-sets qualifying win over Lu Mengqiao and maintains competitive form on the surface despite mixed overall results. Jeong, a former WTA top-400 player now ranked near 1530, holds a stronger year-to-date win rate and prior experience at higher levels, though both compete primarily on the lower-tier circuit. The hard-court conditions and limited head-to-head history favor evaluating recent match fitness, serve consistency, and adaptation to the draw position in this W15 Tianjin 3 encounter.
