Gold prices near $4,400 per ounce on August 17, 2026, have extended gains amid a softer U.S. dollar and fading market-implied odds of a Federal Reserve rate hike at the September FOMC meeting. July CPI data showing a 3.4% year-over-year rise with core at 2.5% reinforced expectations for policy patience after the July 29 hold at the 3.50–3.75% federal funds target range. Traders price reduced near-term tightening pressure against Treasury yields and the dollar, while lingering Middle East tensions and central bank flows provide support. Key upcoming releases include August inflation prints and labor data that could shift rate expectations and volatility in XAU/USD.
